North! To Alaska’s Northern Lights
See the Beauty of the Night Sky With Our Evening Aurora Borealis Tour
During the months of September to April, interior Alaska is one of the best places in the world to view the Aurora Borealis, or “Northern Lights”. This is because of our northern latitude and lack of interference from big city lights. Fairbanks alone has an average aurora viewing 240 nights a year.
Visitors come from all over the world just to view this unique phenomenon. The lights range from simple arcs across the horizon to shimmering spirals that change shapes in seconds, to vast drapes of colors filling the sky. Colors range from yellow and greens to reds, purples and blues.
Normally the aurora can be viewed for hours at a time, because the lights concentrate in a band roughly above the Arctic Circle. A winter tour to the Arctic can provide the best aurora viewing around Fairbanks. Aurora viewing is best in the evenings and nights, and our tours are set up to catch to aurora when it is most visible.
The price of this tour varies from $100-$300 per person, depending on how long the tour is, and how far out of town the driver must go to see the aurora. This is up to the customer and the weather. As always, the price includes sandwiches, snacks, and drinks. We understand that the weather is unpredictable, so we are happy to change the day of this tour due to weather.
